Hair Length for SMP

I frequently get asked the question, “What length should I wear my hair with SMP?”

It’s a great question so I will explain the options in more detail. It is important to think about your natural hair length when having scalp micropigmentation (SMP).

Whether you have thinning hair, or are completely bald, the length of your natural hair can change the look we are trying to achieve with SMP. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that I base the look of scalp micropigmentation to replicate your natural hair follicle.

The Sleek Razor Shave Cut:

The razor shave cut is especially important for balding hair. Most of the time, I base the application to that of a razor shave cut. The traditional razor shave involves taking a straight razor to cut your hair to give it a slick, clean cut. The razor shave is ideal for someone trying to cover patchiness to full-on baldness. I base the SMP application on this look, so that if a client decides to cut their hair shorter, everything will still blend with the pigment. The pigment selection for a razor cut will be lighter than that of a thinning hair application.

The Classic Buzz Cut:

This is a great length and actually my favorite look to pair with scalp micropigmentation. We will still base the application in a conservative manner, that way if you decide to go shorter or to a razor shave, the SMP will still blend. A buzz cut can range from a #1 guard to no guard on the clipper settings. The length of the clipper setting you choose is something you will need to decide, especially if you are gaining a new hairline and more consistency with SMP. Many times, clients who are used to a razor cut that achieve a new hairline and coverage with SMP will end up growing their hair out to avoid the maintenance of a razor shave. In this case, we would go a little darker with the pigment selection to blend with the longer length of your natural hair.

Scissor Cut, Crew Cut, Butch Cut, Fades, High and Tight, and Women’s Hair Styles:

These hair styles are the most popular with thinning hair. If someone is going to wear their hair a longer length, we are able to be more aggressive with the SMP application. Most of the time, the client wants a darker pigment to cover the scalp where the natural hair has thinned. This application provides the most coverage and really creates the look of fullness and thickness of one’s natural hair.

Before your SMP procedure, we will choose a look that not only works for you and your lifestyle, but also compliments the natural hair that you have. Don’t let balding or thinning hair get you self-conscious. There is a solution with Scalp Micropigmention. SMP will fill in the areas of the scalp that are thinning or missing hair. Going bald with grace is becoming a popular hairstyle, but why not cover the areas to camouflage the loss of hair with SMP?
